Cresta Build
This beautiful Italian Style Villa is nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara's Hope Ranch. Designed by the award winning architect Tom Ochsner, this home was a ground up new build. The home includes many unique and beautiful details including hand framed groined vaults, handmade roof tiles, handmade pavers, Habersham cabinetry, unique custom made sconces, an exterior fireplace dating originally to the 1800s and a variety of materials brought in directly from Italy including custom limestone columns.
Mainz Builders had the opportunity to work very closely with the owner of this residence and we were extremely pleased to be able to bring his dream home to life.

The Olives Historic Remodel
2121 Garden Street
Originally built in 1885 by the widow Lucy Brinkerhoff "The Olives" is one of Santa Barbara's historic jewels. The original design of this Victorian home is attributed to Peter Barber, a prolific Santa Barbara architect. The residence has gone through a number of different owners throughout the years and each has left their own personal touches on the main building and the gardens. It's newest owners contacted us about rejuvenating this historic home, bringing back the beauty of the original design while also updating and modernizing many of the amenities.
The home includes large rooms with wide crown moldings, high ceilings with wood beams, hardwood floors, custom stained glass, custom lighting, gas fireplaces, a formal dining room, living room, parlor, library with built in bar, a sunroom, 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, upstairs laundry room, a 4 room attic, large porches, a three car garage, an outdoor pool and a pool house.
Each room in the house was remodeled and restored, much of the original wood work was replicated by hand so that we could extend the original designs into new spaces. The remodeling effort also extended outside the house, all of the hardscaping was updated and a new pool was installed. The original garage was expanded, renovated and then converted into a new pool house, the doors from that garage were then taken and installed into the original guest house which was then converted into a new three car garage.

The property consisted of two separate spaces, Mainz Builders demoed the existing building and stripped it down to the studs so that the two spaces could be joined into one larger store. The front of the building was then extended out an additional 12 feet, a new roof gable was created and an updated entryway was installed. This updated space was then handed over to the Tilly's team for completion.

Alaia

Alaia
The Alaia is a traditional style of surfboard used in pre-20th century Hawaii. The boards are cut with a thin sharp edge to hold the board into the wave (rather than depending on a fin to do so). This board was hand carved in our shop out of cedar and mahogany wood. The name Kaulana was branded into the board to honer the memory of a family member.
